Nebraskans Urge your Members of Congress to Support Public Power Districts and Co-ops in the COVID-19 Relief Package!
Rural public power districts (PPD's) and not-for-profit electric cooperatives are responding to COVID-19 by taking steps to protect employees, maintain reliable and affordable services, and support their communities. Time is of the essence. Policymakers should minimize the COVID-19 impact on our communities by providing a safety net for PPD’s and electric cooperatives. Specifically, Congress should:
Provide additional federal funds to support those that are not able to pay their bills.
Provide direct federal support to address operational shortfalls for Nebraska’s PPD’s and electric cooperatives.
Allow electric cooperatives and PPD’s to refinance federal loans without penalty and increase the amount of lending available through USDA’s Guaranteed Underwriter Program.
Promote investment to expand broadband access in rural America and provide dedicated funding to small broadband providers to make services more available to families and small businesses in rural areas.
Move swiftly to provide promised FEMA funding to rural electric providers for past disasters.
